Suffolk Beekeepers’ Association
Best Practice Day

Beekeeping Best Practice Day
at the Hillside Community Centre, Stowmarket IP14 2BD
from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm
on Saturday 24th March 2018

Becoming an annual event our Best Practice Day is focusing on keeping bees healthy. We will be looking at nutrition, colony immunity and disease that prevents colonies building up in the spring and how to deal with it.

Our keynote speaker is Celia Davis NDB: ‘In Self Defence’ and ‘Plants and Nutrition’.

Jonathan Baynes – Seasonal Bee Inspector ‘ Cleaning and Sterilising Equipment and Comb.’ Or ‘how not to spread disease’.

Lewis Woolnough and Jane Corcoran ‘Failure to Thrive’ – The Silent Killer (Nosema testing. See details about bringing bees for testing).

Jeremy Quinlan ‘All Change’ dealing with comb change in weak and strong colonies.

During the day we will be providing a workshop on how you can test for Nosema. To take advantage of this opportunity you will need to bring with you a labelled permeable box (eg. match box) for each colony with no fewer than 30 bees in each. Details on collecting the sample of bees can be found here.

It is recommended that you book immediately as in previous years the event as been oversubscribed. Entry will only be by prior registration and payment.

To book, £15.00 including lunch, complete the web form below (booking closes 17th March 2018 or when fully booked)

For queries email Jane Corcoran.
